Organic Farming 101 – What is Organic Farming?

Organic farming has been around for a long time, and so it will not be surprising that there are a lot of misconceptions about organic farming. For instance, one of the most common types of organic farming is the so-called chemical-free farming method.

Free of chemicals and other toxic substances does not necessarily mean “without any chemical”. This term can be misleading because the word “free” does not necessarily mean “chemical-free”. The free farming method does indeed contain less or no chemical pesticides used to grow food, but there is still a big difference between organic farming methods that are chemical-free and those that are not.

Is it better?

One of the common claims about organic farming is that it is somehow “better”, “healthier” than conventional farming. This is actually the opposite of the truth. While conventional farming is not very healthy in terms of the environment and human health, organic farming methods which are not chemical-based are also considered unhealthy by the authorities.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) places organic farming methods to be “not acceptable” and are classified as non-conventional or organic. To prove that it is organic farming methods that are “not acceptable”, the USDA publishes an annual report entitled Organic Production Systems Manual (OPSM).

Organic farming is a method that promotes the consumption of food that has been grown organically without using any harmful chemicals. So if a farmer is not using any chemicals, then how does the organic farming methods to prevent pests and disease? Organic farming methods are designed to destroy the life cycle of organisms so that they are no longer able to reproduce or survive.

Goals of organic farming

Organic farming has three major goals: to restore natural balance, to provide benefits to consumers and workers, and to protect the environment. It is important to note that conventional farming does have some benefits for consumers and workers, but it does also cause harm to the environment and people.

In organic farming, the process is used to develop organic agriculture, and farmers must avoid “petrochemical” fertilizer and pesticides. Also, the organic farm is the only farm that can be considered “organic”. Many people have already gone through the rigorous requirements and found out that they are still not “organic” as the terms are defined by the government.

Methods of organic farming

Organic farming methods include various aspects, such as the creation of a balance between natural and man-made components. So an organic farm will contain elements like soil that contains organic matter, natural sunlight, animals, and plants that have not been treated with any form of synthetic chemicals.

Some of the organic farming methods include the following: crop rotation, environmental management, re-use of plant matter, composting of manure, plant growth retardation, protection of biological diversity, organic pest control, and water conservation. Each of these practices may take time and financial resources, but they contribute towards the overall success of the organic farming system. They provide benefits to people, animals, and the environment, and in return, they create a good way to live for everyone.

Organic farming methods provide a healthy environment for humans and animals, and they promote organic products and nutritious foods that are both good for the environment and food industry. They are also a good choice for the government and other institutions as they do not hurt the economy.

Conclusion

Organic farming is a good choice and method for many, but it may not be the right choice for everyone. It is important to research the type of farming you want to try before selecting any farming method.

If you decide to go into organic farming, start to research all the options available to you, and try different organic farming methods. That way, you can get to know which farming method will be best for you.
